‍ Why the Kongki Ka Project

‍It is important for Christians to understand the teachings of the Bible in order to grow in their faith. These stories show the character of God in an instructive way. However, not everyone can read. Even many of those who can read prefer to learn by listening or by seeing pictures. Many Bible translations use higher language that ordinary people do not fully understand. Not only that, many languages do not have a Bible translation.

The Kongki Ka project opens the stories of the Bible to everyone by retelling important portions in everyday spoken language.

The Kongki Ka project does not provide a translation of the Bible. It gives a verse by verse retelling that make people turn to the full Bible for deeper understanding.

‍What is Included in this Project

‍The Kongki Ka Bible Video Series consists of 62 pictures. These pictures show important stories of the Bible that are easy to understand. These pictures have been divided into 346 episodes. Each episode has been made into a video consisting of scenes from the painting. Each scene has a piece from the Bible, usually one verse, that is retold by a native speaker of the language.

This site publishes the materials for each language separately. The materials posted here vary from language to language. Provision has been made for the original picture for each story (PDF). For each episode, there could be a thumbnail, a PowerPoint template, a link to the YouTube video, audio of the episode (MP3) and the full video (MP4)

In English, the available materials for each episode are limited to a thumbnail and a PowerPoint template.

The PowerPoint templates can be used to make videos in other languages.

Advantages of these materials

The most important stories from the Bible are presented in one place, with their Bible references in pictures.

• The stories are told in colloquial language so that everyone can understand them.

• The Bible stories are separated into short pieces suitable for private Bible Study as well as for small group discussions.

• The pictures and narration are by Asians for Asians.

• The stories are faithful to the Bible text by means of verse by verse retelling.

• For the life of Jesus, each of the Gospels are consulted to provide as full picture of the events as possible.

In addition, the templates enable speakers of any language, even those with few speakers, to make their own Bible Story Videos, even if there is no Bible translation for that language.

PowerPoint has been chosen for this project for several reasons.

‍It is easy to learn so that people with low computer skills can take part.

• It is a product that is used by many people that has good support all over the world.

• Even cheaper computers can be used to make good quality videos.

• Making a video can be done quickly - the actual recording of most videos can be done within two hours. This excludes studying the text, checking the video for correctness, generating the video and posting to the web.

‍Who we are

‍The pictures of these stories were created in the 2000s by Tibetan artists in Tibet. The work was facilitated by staff members of All Nations International. In 2021, Dhondup Tsering, a Tibetan Christian, saw these pictures and decided  to make videos of them in his own words using only spoken Tibetan, not written language. The templates were built by Leonie Smith with a view to make them easy to translate into new languages. Dhondup Tsering and Leonie Smith completed the Modern Tibetan Bible Story Video Series in 2023.

‍Since then, translations have been done into Kham Tibetan and Hindi by various teams. A Nepali translation is under way.
